CyclAFlor® Applications

Greenhouse Gas Mitigation
CyclAFlor® Separator is a gas permeable membrane material engineered for greenhouse gas mitigation and clean fuel production. Used as the active coating in gas separation membranes, it enables precise separation of gas mixtures in energy, industrial, and environmental systems. Key applications and benefits:
- removing carbon dioxide from methane in natural gas production
- purifying hydrogen made from methane and ammonia
- separating azeotropic refrigerant mixtures and blends
Separator can optimize the selectivity, permeability, and physical properties of membrane systems while providing lower operating costs and reduced environmental impact.
Natural Gas Upgrading
Global production of natural gas has been steadily increasing, due in large part to the fracking revolution. Natural gas as produced at the wellhead, however, typically contains a mix of components besides methane, including heavier hydrocarbons like ethane, propane, and butane as well as acidic contaminants such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and carbon dioxide (CO2).
A membrane is basically a barrier that allows certain gases to pass through it, while blocking others. Separator membrane systems can remove these contaminants from methane in natural gas production (a process called “sweetening sour gas”) and offer a cost-effective, energy-efficient alternative to traditional amine scrubbers of similar capacity.
CO2 Mitigation and Capture
Once separated from methane, the carbon dioxide can be pumped back into the ground to enhance production of the well, converted into renewable feedstocks like ethylene and propylene for the chemical and plastics industries, or reused as carbonation gas – offering real alternatives to atmospheric release where it would contribute to global warming.
Hydrogen Purification for Clean Fuel
Separator membranes remove contaminants from hydrogen derived from methane or ammonia. This supports the creation gray and blue hydrogen and chemical intermediates for higher-octane, cleaner-burning automotive and aviation fuels.
Refrigerant Reclamation and GWP Reduction
Use of refrigerants with lower global warming potential (GWP) is a strong worldwide trend gaining momentum. Separator enables membrane-based separation of azeotropic refrigerant blends, reclaiming high-GWP materials and reducing their environmental impact. Like other functional polymers for environmental applications, Separator supports global goals to lower climate-warming emissions.
A Platform for Scalable, Sustainable Impact
CyclAFlor Separator offers tunable selectivity, high permeability, and strong chemical resistance – ideal traits for scalable gas separation membrane systems. Whether used for CO2 removal, making cleaner fuels, or reducing high GWP refrigerants in the environment, Separator is a proven material in the fight for greenhouse gas emissions mitigation.
